Tasty Tuesday!

EARTHQUAKE CAKE!
How's that for a scrumptious tuesday tasty?!

This cake was heavenly delicious.  I'm not a huge fan of desert or chocolate, but this may have changed my mind completely ;]  If it were me, I'd call it Super Surprise Cake.  It looks like a run-of-the-mill pan of brownies or chocolate cake...but then you dig in and find many surprises that make your taste buds scream "Uh-huh, one more piece please!!!!"  Pecans, coconut, cream cheese, powdered sugar.....oh, it's amazing.

I took this cake to my cousins family reunion last night.  I didn't tell anyone what it was.  It took a while for anyone to dig in (they all just assumed it was plain old brownies).  Half way through the night my cousins husband came to me and asked "What is in that cake...it's awesome!??"  That made my night, because I knew it would be surprising :]  Anyway, it was eaten and enjoyed!  Here's the recipe...

When in doubt, I always pick up a Gooseberry Patch cookbook.  Their recipes are always delicious and everyone loves the results.  So, this recipe is from the "Family Favorites" book.  This particular book has been used so many times it has oil, vanilla and dressing stains all through it.  You always know your favorite cookbooks from the amount of 'food stains' in them!

Peace out and don't be afraid to eat!

messy monday AND tasty tuesday

Sometimes we wake up in the morning with full intentions of doing exactly what we have planned to do for that day!  Sometimes it just doesn't happen ;]

Monday was taken over by a baby shower...that I forgot about!  So I botched up my plans, grabbed Sadie and went shopping for a dang cute baby gift.  We found one at Carters which is right next to the building my Caitlyn works in.  Seizing the opportunity, we stopped by & luckily she was just getting off work so we went to lunch.  It was fun and I'm grateful for that time my girls and I spent together.

I was going to clean and organize my closet for messy monday...but instead...I made an attempt to fix a few little messes today to make up for yesterday.  After putting away some groceries, I realized a couple of my drawers were a mess....so I took 3 minutes to get those messy drawers cleaned up and organized.  Still felt good even though the projects were small.
BEFORE:  messy.....
AFTER:  clean & organized...
I never took a 'before' pic....but, I'm sure you can imagine!
it's much better!

Tuesday (today) turned out about the same!  I spent most of my day making up for what I didn't get done yesterday....bank, grocery store and laundry.   I had a really delicious recipe I wanted to try and I was super excited about it....HOWEVER, on my way to take Sadie to her friends house, we saw CJ and stopped to say "hi!"  He said it was time he took me out on a date!  Um....OK!  So, we went to see a movie.  It was fun, and I'm so glad we took the time for a date ;]  So my tasty tuesday didn't turn out so tasty.  When I opened my box of pepperoni pizza I actually laughed out loud...HA! how ironic...it's tasty tuesday and this couldn't look any less appetizing!!  It wasn't bad and the popcorn and milk duds that accompanied it we pretty good too ;]
who made this one...it looks terrible!
I love my CJ and being with him is my favorite thing!  Isn't he just the cutest?  Well, I think so!
yay....DATE NIGHT with this guy!
we picked this movie...very entertaining!!

So, the moral of the blog is this....sometimes we get distracted from our goal, but, it's ok because we can take joy in the smaller, and sometimes greater, things that blessed us with the distraction.  It's hard for me to enjoy the distractions...but I'm learning and breathing, so I'm going to be ok ;]

Peace out and chill :]

tasty tuesday

TASTY TUESDAY: (find a recipe, make it and eat it!)

I used to have this bad habit of buying (collecting?) recipe books.  I really like to cook/bake, but not enough to have 43 cookbooks in my cabinet!  I was so excited when I discovered AllRecipes.com and Pinterest...now I just store great recipes in cyber space somewhere :]

SWEET BEANS is the recipe I chose this week.  It's from my Goose Berry Patch cookbook, Summer in the Country.  Holy Cow it is delicious!  I'm pretty sure this could be done in a dutch oven too...scrumptious for camp out dinner!

I loved these beans and amazingly enough so did my husband (who I've never seen eat baked beans!)...so they must be as good as I think ;]

Last night was our neighbors 5th annual concert/party.  Every year he (Doug Collins) sets up a stage and brings in an up & coming country singer to entertain the community.  He makes burgers and we all bring pot luck (I brought my beans!), chairs and blankets....then the show begins!  It's fun and there are usually around 400 - 500 people that show up.  Our small community is pretty spread out so this is a great event that brings people together :]

I love being with friends and neighbors at events like this.  Good food, laughter and fun music always seem to lift everyones spirits!

Peace out and Party On!!
