tackle a task...during a summer storm

HA HA!  I did it...I cleared out my night stand!  My only regret is that I didn't take a "before" picture to remind myself how absolutely out of control it was & can get.  (yes, there is a water marked corner...I love it because it's where I can always find my water or diet coke.  Not a ruined piece of furniture, but a very loved one!)
look....EMPTY!
I bought a book about a year ago called "The Happiness Project" by Gretchen Rubin.  I picked it up a few different times to read...but, whatever, like I had the time to focus!  But now I do...so I did.  In one part there's a challenge to tackle a task, no matter how small.  I thought "I can do that, small tasks are good tasks...and the only kind I really like!"  So tonight I cleared through my night stand.  It's been cleaned off several times, but never completely emptied and organized at the same time.  I am so happy with my clean night stand.  Yay for me ;]  I'm excited to read the rest of my book and hope to blog about it when I really get into it.  BUT...for now I'm just happy to have accomplished something!

We were blessed with a very cool summer storm this afternoon (and it's still going at 9:45pm!).  I sat outside for a while just watching the lightning and listening to the thunder and rain.  I'm a storm girl....just love 'em.  Not winter ones though because I don't like the bitter cold!  Anyway, I decided to set up the porch chairs that I haven't taken the time to set up yet this summer and I found my cute little snail 'Gary'...he's named that because he looks like Sponge Bob's snail, Gary :]
"Gary"
That's Gary, purchased from Hobby Lobby last year.  He just makes me giggle...so I bought him.  So, as I was getting my porch in order I happened to notice a real snail making it's way across my front walkway.  I'm not a snail fan.  They destroy all the pretty leaves on my bedding plants.  However, I thought he was the cutest thing, and he was moving so slow...I'm sure it was hard!?  I found myself completely enthralled by this snail.  Where's he going?  And, why?  What's so important in the flower bed on the other side of the walkway?  Whatever it was, he was willing to risk the trek across the 4 foot block of cement to get there.  I guess I was sort of admiring him...weird, i know.
my new 'snail' friend
After a while I came in the house to start on my night stand task.  A bit later I took out the trash I gathered from my task, and he was gone.  My slimy little snail must have made it to his destination because I couldn't find him...I did a little cheer for him and went on with my night.

It's funny how the little things can make you think and ponder BIG thoughts.  I get made fun of, quite a bit, for how I get a kick out of (seemingly) meaningless things, but I LOVE THAT I DO...it makes me happy!  There's a saying that goes "I LIVE IN MY OWN LITTLE WORLD, BUT IT'S OK, THEY KNOW ME HERE"  I feel like that a lot...and it is ok :]

Peace out and be of good cheer!
